Weather – Fahrenheit and Celsius
Weather can be measured and reported in two main temperature scales: Fahrenheit (°F) and Celsius (°C). Here’s a comparison between the two:
Fahrenheit:
The Fahrenheit scale is commonly used in the United States, along with a few other countries.
On the Fahrenheit scale, the freezing point of water is 32°F, and the boiling point is 212°F at sea level.
In terms of weather, typical summer temperatures in Fahrenheit can range from the 70s to the 90s (°F), while winter temperatures can range from below 0°F to the 40s or 50s (°F).
Celsius:
The Celsius scale is used in most countries around the world, as well as in scientific and meteorological contexts.
On the Celsius scale, the freezing point of water is 0°C, and the boiling point is 100°C at sea level.
In terms of weather, typical summer temperatures in Celsius can range from the mid-20s to the mid-30s (°C), while winter temperatures can range from below 0°C to the mid-teens or low 20s (°C).
To convert between Fahrenheit and Celsius, you can use the following formulas:
To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius: (°F – 32) × 5/9 = °C
To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit: (°C × 9/5) + 32 = °F
For example, if the weather is 75°F, the equivalent temperature in Celsius would be (75 – 32) × 5/9 ≈ 23.9°C.
